Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

The Sudden Infant Death Syndrom is in the Industrialcountries the most common cause of the death of babys in their first year. Every year about 700 children die in Germany caused through this phenomenon. (That is about 2 of 1000 babys). In between the first and 20th week of living, appear more then the half of the death of the babys with this sickness. The exact causes are in spite of many researches in the whole world still unknown.

Known are some things that might raise the chance of getting this sickness like, aktiv and passiv smoking while the preagnancy and the nursing period, not enoght nursing, when the weight of the baby is under 2500 gramm when it is born , the overheating of the baby and if the baby is born too early. The greatest danger appears to be when the preagnant woman is sleeping on the belly. After specialists suggested in the early nineties the back position for pregnant women, the death rate shrinked almost at a third. Scientists think that when the baby stops brathing when its sleeps it might depent on the turned head position. With special Ultrasound pictures in the first days of living you can get indices of a higher risk. Reanimation should be tought to all parents, to help if the kid reacently stoped breathing. Even so all of these hint wiklll be followed the risk will always be there.

It is even more harder for Parents who lost their Baby thourgh the SIDS, because the cause of death isnt natural the Criminal Police department has to be called in Germany and in addition the baby has to be examed. This is of course a terrible Thought for the parents. The result of the examination could help the parents to (forget) their childs death, because they know the cause of death and they know that it isn't their fault.
